Adopt an olive tree, save Salento.
Adopt an olive tree, help us save Salento.
We talk about our association on:
1. To fight against Xylella
In the last 5 years, over 21 million olive trees have disappeared, destroyed by Xylella and over 5,000 olive growers have lost fields, jobs and traditions, reducing the production of Salento oil by 80%.
2. To reduce the environmental impact .
Over the past 5 years, the pollution rate has increased by 8% . Each hectare of olive trees removes 9.5 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere every year. That is about 730 Kg of CO2 per year for each olive tree.
3. To offer a true EVO oil
We want to return to offering our organic extra virgin olive oil , with verified quality and origin, produced with cutting-edge techniques that allow us to have zero environmental impact .

Why adopt an olive tree in Puglia?
Puglia was the region most affected by Xylella, the killer bacterium of the olive trees. The production of Puglia oil has dropped by about 80% as a result, with over 20 million olive trees being lost. If we consider that the Apulian production covers about 50% of the entire Italian oil production, this gives an idea of the dramatic impact that the bacterium has had not only on Puglia, but on the whole country.
How does Olivami work?
Olivami is a non-profit association (Olivami ETS – CF 93160150756) which brings together various farms in the province of Lecce. The headquarters are in Martano, in the heart of the so-called Grecìa Salentina , a set of municipalities where the traditions of the ancient Greek culture are still alive, which had a very strong symbol in the Olive tree.
Adopt an olive tree: Leccino or Favolosa?
What are? What is the difference? They are two varieties (so-called ” cultivar “) of olive trees which have proved particularly resistant to Xylella, and which were therefore chosen by Olivami to repopulate the Salento countryside. The two varieties differ mainly in the flavor of the oil and in the appearance of the tree (the crown in particular).
