The project
A concrete commitment to the local area
“On May 3, 2023, CBI formally became a Benefit Corporation, taking another step forward on its path of innovation toward sustainability. This legal status allows the company, in the course of its business operations, to pursue—in addition to profit objectives—one or more goals for the common good and to operate in a responsible, sustainable, and transparent manner toward people, communities, and the environment. Since its founding, CBI has always sought to assess and manage its environmental, social, and governance impacts. For this reason, CBI has long been working on sustainability issues to best foster the new ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) culture, considering it of extreme value for its employees, customers, shareholders, and the communities in which it operates, by managing its activities in a sustainable and responsible manner and implementing actions that enhance its regenerative contribution. Among the various initiatives undertaken, CBI has partnered with the nonprofit organization OlivaMi, drawn to the beauty of its project and the goals it pursues. We proudly hope that the “CBI garden” will grow strong and long-lasting, and be as fruitful as we hope for our company.”
Storytelling
The story of the project
CBI S.c.p.a. Società Benefit is a company owned by approximately 400 banks and other financial intermediaries that develops, within an ecosystem, innovative infrastructure and services in the fields of digital payments, open banking, and open finance; services that CBI’s clients—banks and fintech companies—offer to businesses, citizens, and the public sector to respond promptly to market demands and international competition. CBI is supervised by the Bank of Italy pursuant to Article 146 of the Consolidated Banking Law (T.U.B.). In addition, as of May 2023, CBI has formally become a Benefit Corporation, supplementing its corporate purpose with certain objectives of common benefit to promote socially oriented activities and increase positive social impacts on people and the environment.
In recent years, CBI has achieved numerous milestones: more than 3 million companies in Italy use the CBI Service for multi-bank treasury management; over 11 million citizens have already used the CBILL Service to view and pay online payment notices from companies and via pagoPA; 7 central government agencies are connected to CBI via centralized application services to reach all banks and thus optimize the management of complex projects and services; over 80% of the Italian financial industry participates in the CBI Globe multi-operator platform, which simplifies interactions between Payment Service Providers, Fintech companies, businesses, and the public administration—both to ensure compliance with European regulations and to play an active role in open banking, thanks to coverage of all domestic online checking accounts and the leading European open banking platforms, thereby creating innovative solutions for customers; In the areas of Open Finance and Data Monetization, CBI has developed several value-added services (VAS) to enhance its clients’ competitiveness, including IBAN checks (including cross-border), Name Check, CBI GO, and CBI Safe Trade.
