A concrete commitment to the local area

Our Institute’s participation in this ambitious project to create an eco-sustainable garden represents a concrete step toward a more sustainable future. The adoption of 230 olive trees not only contributes to the reforestation of a precious region like Salento but also serves as a tangible symbol of our commitment to environmental protection. Salento, with its centuries-old olive trees and breathtaking landscapes, is an invaluable heritage that must be preserved. Through this project, the Bank intends to continue its journey toward sustainability and contribute to the enhancement of a region that deserves to be protected and promoted. We are convinced that this project can serve as a model for other businesses to follow, knowing that only through collaboration and a sense of community can we address the environmental challenges of our time. For Banca Popolare Pugliese, the adoption of these olive trees represents a symbol of hope for the future—a tangible sign of its commitment to building a more sustainable world for generations to come.

The story of the project

Banca Popolare Pugliese contributed to the planting of 230 new small olive trees and the cultivation of 230 olive trees by purchasing the carbon credits generated by them. BANCA POPOLARE PUGLIESE S.C.p.A. was established on June 2, 1994, through the merger of two “historic” financial institutions in the Salento region—Banca Popolare Sud Puglia and Banca Popolare di Lecce—becoming one of the most significant financial institutions in Southern Italy. Its primary business is banking, which involves accepting deposits and providing various forms of credit—both to its members and to non-members—in accordance with the guiding principles of cooperative banking. This activity enables the bank to serve as a point of reference in the regions where it operates for all economic actors (and, in particular, households, small businesses, and cooperatives), whose needs for managing and safeguarding their economic and financial stability are becoming increasingly complex and diverse. With its registered office in Parabita (LE) and its administrative headquarters and executive management in Matino (LE), it has been, since the day of its founding, one of the most dynamic and significant banking institutions in Southern Italy, steadily increasing, over the years, its influence in its target territory through numerous corporate transactions of various kinds (acquisitions of competing banks, mergers by incorporation, and acquisitions of branches of other banks). It pursues not only economic goals but also mutualistic ones, and is therefore focused on solidarity and cooperation, as well as on safeguarding individual rights and enhancing social, cultural, and environmental well-being, serving as a key driver for growth, development, and the realization of the economic and social potential of the regions it serves.
