Introduction – When Should You Plant an Olive Tree?
Planting an olive tree is not just an agricultural act. It is a promise made to the land, an act of love that looks to the future. But like any important promise, this one also needs the the right time to put down deep roots.
Let’s discover all the secrets of planting an olive tree.

The olive tree has its own rhythm, just like everything precious
The olive tree is an ancient, wise tree, accustomed to long silences and patience. For this reason, choosing the right time to plant it is essential: it means providing it with the best conditions to grow healthy and strong, and to become, over time, part of the landscape.

🌱 The best time? Fall and spring
In Salento—the region where OlivaMi has its roots—the best time to plant an olive tree is between October and March, with a slight extension into April, depending on weather conditions.
- Fall (October–December): The soil still retains the summer’s warmth, but the rains begin to soften the ground. It’s the perfect time to help plants take root, without the stress of high temperatures.
- Spring (March–April): This is also an excellent season, especially if the winter has been harsh. The days are getting longer, the sun is warm but not scorching, and all of nature is awakening with a vitality that also inspires the young seedlings.
🚫 What about summer?
It’s best to avoid it. Summer in Salento is beautiful but unforgiving: hot and intense. A young plant, still fragile, might suffer too much and be affected by the high temperatures right from the start. Our mission is to protect it, not to put it to the test before it’s ready.
🔁 A Quick Tip
Before planting a tree, it is always advisable to deeply till the soil and, if possible, have a soil analysis performed.
Plant Today to Breathe Tomorrow
When we plant an olive tree, we are also planting a vision of the future.
Every tree adopted through Olivami is a tangible sign of resilience against Xylella, but also a contribution to reforestation, biodiversity, and the beauty of our land.
We follow the rhythm of the seasons not out of convention, but out of respect. Because nature always knows what to do: we just need to listen to it.

Watering: Not Too Much, But Just Enough
The olive tree is a plant that withstands drought well, but in the first 2–3 years of its life, it needs some help to develop a strong root system.
