this allowed the farmers to survey the entire surrounding field from above. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, most of the pajare were built and located in the center of the lot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although ancient, the structures had been designed to withstand the test of time and the elements, making them <strong>virtually indestructible.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to serving as <strong>shelters<\/strong>, pajares were often used to store farm tools, as storage for crops and straw, or as stables for animals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their name, \u201cpajare,\u201d <strong>comes from the<\/strong> Salento dialect <strong>word<\/strong> \u201cpaja,\u201d which means \u201cstraw\u201d;
